DEBATE: Ghetto Radio’s “Herbs Promotion.” Right or Wrong?
Ghetto Radio prides itself on being the official sheng station for the poor masses.
This makes it such that one of their staple music types is reggae music, which is closely affiliated to the rastafari culture. Key to this rasta culture is the smoking of weed, marijuana, bhangi, or any other fancy name you wish to ascribe to it. This association between weed and reggae has led to many songs about ‘di herb’ being written. These herbal songs receive massive airplay on Ghetto Radio, and the hosts of their various shows can be heard openly promoting the green stuff.
When you step back and think about it, there are two sides of this coin. There are the people, like myself, who say that weed is not really dangerous, and mostly causes people to have a free and easy time(AND finish all the food in the house!) while there are others who look at the strict letter of the law, as well as religious trains of thought that dictate that marijuana is illegal and shouldn’t be promoted.
What do you think of Ghetto Radio‘s pro-weed stance in this Kenya of ours? Are you for or against it? Uko na mbrr ama hauna mbrrcha yeyote? Leave your interesting or creative responses in the comment section below:
