KENYA’S HOTTEST DEEJAYS
Who are Kenya’s hottest deejays?
Yet another epic weekend was had by every member of Ghafla All Stars. And seeing as i was at venues and events with Deejays who managed to get me dancing, a question was conceived in my mind… Who is Kenya’s hottest deejay? Who keeps us dancing as we engage in our revelry?
And who do i elect to be on my list of the hottest Deejays? Well, have a look!

#10 Dj Styles
This guy was huge a couple of years ago. He was untouchable: going as far as instigating a beef between his outfit and another. You weren’t a deejay unless he gave you the nod. This guy was where it was at and he knew it. Unfortunately, the ego got the better of him and he begun to alienate people.
Then a story was aired on Pulse a long time ago; an expose about how he was paying a younger albeit better ranked deejay 3000/- per show and that was when i completely went off him. Maybe i’m losing objectivity but it is as it is. Pity too cos he made Kenyan Deejays cool -could’ve been a legend…
#9 DVJ Mobi
This lad spins at my favourite club and he’s pretty decent. He has incredible mixes of Dance, House, Kwaito and a smudge of some of my more favoured Naija music. What can i say about his sets except that i always get up to dance? nuff sed!

#8 Kriss Darling
What can i say about this lad? He has his show on K24 which to be honest apart from Jeff on the Bench is the only reason i tune in… well, that’s not right… Jeff, him and “The Sauce”. This lad is amongst the warriors that legitimized reggae and dancehall which hitherto was considered a mugs game…
That in itself immortalizes this lad beyond repraoch in as far as music is considered and the fact that i can ignore all the talking and singing along done on the mixtapes is testament to his skill.

#7 Dj Hassan
This lad has a show on KBC called “HomeGrown” that’s just silly of the hook. Unfortunately though, the lass who dances awkwardly is abit distracting… i end up wondering whether it’s her awkward dancing or the fact that she can gerrit that is distracting… Anyway, he has really mad skills yo! bad station and time slot to be on but he is blessed with itchy scratchy fingers.

#6 Dj Hypnotiq
This chap holds it down like a safety pin on an old foggey’s adult diapers on when he is doing his thing on Live On Blast on KISS TV. Live On Blast airs on weekdays from 5:00 to 6:00pm..
This guy has mad sets on telly yo! Switching from local to international mixes with such ease.
He also has a day job at KISS TV where he is also the music director. Don’t believe me? Watch Live on Blast on Kiss TV. Go ahead, take me up on my challenge.
#5 Dj Mo
i must first confess to having a strong bias against gospel. Too much sing-songy balladry… But DJ Mo has found a way to keep gospel fresh and entertaining thus reaching and entertaining even the most hard-hearted critics such as me.

This guy made being “saved” cool while simultaneously mixing and he did all this without breaking a sweat! And even his side hassle is impressive! What else would you want from a Christian Dj?
#4 Dj Nruff
If i have my facts right, i think he’s also the music manager at Easy FM -but i shan’t dock points for the fact seeing as irrespective of the music, it goes to show that he knows his music. To top it up, off, this guy is the Kenyan version of Dj Khaled. Unfortunately he only does tracks with lads from his neighbourhood. I’m often left wondering why he doesn’t just spread his wings and move on to bigger things possibly even getting his boy’os in with other established artists.
But i digress… this lad has ambition beyond spinning and scratching vinyl.
#3 Dj Kaytrixx
Friend of mine said something today… “As far as music is concerned, Kaytrixx is a god!” This lad reportedly rose to his feet after getting the short end of the stick… Pulse reported that he was being paid 3,000/- but he has risen to be the most demanded deejay… Save for the next two.

And his mixes? This lads sets are off the hinges like a bat out of hell! He has a monster in him when he’s mixing the music he has a fiend in him battling to be unleashed! Watch Str8 Up for proof of this!
This is where making a selection became a headache. These lads are too talented, too driven and too ambitious and too celebrated for this to have gone any other way other than a toss-up.

#2 Dj Creme
This guy is where it’s at! Even Channel O know this so they let him have his way with Bassment and trust that it’s a murder! As my boyo George would say: “Ssssssoooo niccccccce!”.
The only complaint i have is that he talks abit much but that does nothing to dampen the party atmosphere his sets generate. This lad so ill, any party he performs in catches a fever! He’s the only reason i’d think of setting foot in Galileos or Changes. Trust!

#1 Dj Joe Mfalme
This the only reason i tune in to Capital. His mixes are just that ill! And if you think not, check out his mixes on Channel O’s Bassment and if you aren’t impressed, i’m guessing that’s because your idea of music is hearing a walrus’ mating call.
This guy can read a crowd like no other and he’s straight versatile. He does hiphop sets, reggae sets, basically anything goes. He was the deejay at the Tarrus concert and he got the reggae uhm… Safaras shaking their dreads.
This next lad didn’t get on the list because to include him would be to trivialise his status: LEGEND.

Dj Adrian
This man right here is a legend! He has been playing since i can remember and were it not for my colleagues, i must admit that being a sucker for history. He has managed to remain relevant and he was amongst the breed that first made a living out of what they are passionate about. Mad respect to this man right here and no one should blaspheme by saying different.
