Did you know about the Somali rappers from Eastleigh?… They’re actualy fighting Al Shabaab
When I heard about these Somali rappers, I said to myself that this might just be the next big thing (like K’Naan).
Too bad they don’t rap in English or Swahili, but for their cause, their music is best in their Somali language.
They are known as ‘Waayaha Cusub’ and their most famous track is titled ‘say no to al shabaab’. The song is aimed at literally trashing Al Shabaab and their believes, and also show that not all Muslims and Somalis are in cahoots with the terrorists and terrorism in general.
Their studio was once a store and a hangout joint. Now, it’s strictly used for music production. It is situated in Eastleigh, First Avenue and it attracts more crowd than an oil spill in Kenya.
Ali,(pictured above) a member of the group, says that he has frequently received threatening text messages from the terrorists. They even attacked and shot him on November 10Th 2010. Yet, he is still going strong. Still rapping, still spreading the word against Al Shabaab.
Here is a sneak to his flow.
