Forget Uhuruto Laptops, Here Is The First Tablet designed In Kenya for Primary School Kids
When the Jubilee government announced that it will provide a laptop to every standard one child, many waited to see whether this will be another success as free primary education. Several years down the line the government does not even have the cash to pay teachers for the same children.
Well not everyone goes around making promises without fulfilling them and this is the case of BRCK Education Kenya under the leadership of its president Nivi Mukherjee. It has come up with the Kio Tablet designed and assembled in Kenya by JP the worlds largest educational technology provider. The tablet intended to be used by kids in primary schools has some amazing specs tailor-made for the handling and environment it will be subjected to.
Cool specs include; ability to withstand a drop onto a concrete floor from 70cm, a fairly substantial water spill and extreme exposure to dust. It’s powered by one of Intel’s new SOFIA 3G budget processors . It ha a 7inch, 1024×600 screen and a 4 000mAh battery that should last for eight hours.
A single tablet retails for around $99 dollars translating to about 10,000 Kenyan shillings and is set to be available to schools by October and to the public in next year. Watch the video of the tablets launch here;
