Standard Group Makes History As 250-300 People Stand To Lose Their Jobs
As you are all aware, things are pretty thick at Standard Group. A colossal amount of employees will be sent home in the coming future.
A reliable source at the media house informs us that this retrenchment at Standard has never been witnessed in any media outlet in Kenya as 250-300 of their employees are getting sent home. Making the casualties even more than those who faced retrenchment from Kiss TV in 2013.
To avoid losing it all, people are now choosing retirement over retrenchment and those retiring are expected to pack up by the 27th of June. Either that or you are discharged on redundancy grounds so people are choosing the safer option, retirement.
The source informs us that no one’s job is safe, not even managers or news anchors.
This ugly situation is because the wage bill is so high after the new crop of Human Resource hired people aimlessly not thinking of the repercussions. The loss of revenue following Digital Migration is not helping things.
But it’s not all doom and gloom at KTN, as they have a new station which is looking to take advantage of the digital space. Unlike what many thought Deutsche Welle is not funding the new station, it’s their own initiative.
