So what is so special about today that is driving social media into a wild frenzy? They call it ‘Social Media Day’.
A day set aside to recognize and celebrate social media’s impact on global communication, June 30th. Social Media users from around the world will today mark the sixth anniversary of Social Media Day.
#SMDayKE is currently the hottest topic on Twitter as Kenyans on social media have flocked the tag in numbers to celebrate.
Mike Sonko led the celebration on Facebook where he confessed to being an addict to social media. Below is what he wrote:

Although I’m not ashamed, I have come to realize that I’m an addict of social media. If you are keen enough, you will notice that during my free time I’m always on my phone replying to my fans either on Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Instagram or emails.
Technology has allowed me to reach my fans directly. Social media has completely revolutionised how we interact, promote and share things. We have all seen especially here in Kenya how the power of social media has forced necessary changes in our governments, both county and national.
It’s the same power which has United us in helping needy families in remote areas e.g #Kenyans4Kenya. We have also seen justice being served through it, I have truly fallen in love with social media.
I just love the connectivity it provides, the creativity it allows, and the breathtaking wealth of information we all have at our fingertips because of it.
The world is more connected today than ever before because of social media. We now live in a global village where we can interact with anyone at any time around the globe.
