10 Year Old Nairobi Slum Kid Brings New York To A Standstill (Photos+Video)
What’s it with Kenyans shining on the world’s stage? Can’t fathom that! This time it’s not Lupita that is wagging on Americans’ tongues, it’s a 10 year old kid from the slums of Nairobi.
Just like Martin Luther King Jr. is still remembered for his speech, ‘I Have a Dream’, Eunice Akoth gripped audience at Women In The World Summit in New York with her poem which was reminiscent of the fallen American activist.
The three day summit was held to celebrate the struggles and triumphs of women and girls around the globe.
World leaders, industry icons and movie stars convened with artists, peacemakers and activists to tell their stories and share their plans of action.
Eunice’s dream for a better future was the one that stood out. She caught the attention of the audience with her poem which narrated her story growing up in Kibera, the challenges she faced, etc.
She couldn’t hold back her tears while telling her captivating story. The youngster’s voice reverberated across the room with an intensity to draw the attention of everybody present.
Eunice is a class six pupil at Kibera’s all-girls school which was founded by Kennedy Odede and Jessica Posner Odede who are husband and wife and who also accompanied Eunice to the summit.
