Dinner Turns Sour: Who Poisoned Over 100 Strathmore University Students?

The prestigious Strathmore University was struck by disaster after its students were admitted at various hospitals within the city diagnosed with ‘serious’ food poisoning.

A dinner party held at Strathmore University’s auditorium is the genesis of the illness facing over 150 students. The institution annually holds Seniors’ dinner for the fourth year students; this year’s celebration however turned catastrophic after students started complaining of severe stomachache.

All those rushed to various hospitals in Nairobi were diagnosed with food poisoning. While some students were immediately discharged after seeking medical help, five were admitted to Nairobi hospital, three at Aga Khan and Mater, and one at Maria Immaculata. Majority of the sick students were hospitalized at Nairobi West Hospital.

The university’s Director of Communication, Betty Ngala, said the food served during the Fourth year students’ dinner was from an outsourced caterer. She however explained the caterer had been used before for similar events without students having health complications.

Food samples taken during the party has since been taken to various laboratories for analysis. The report is yet to be released.
