Ghafla Explores: Eric Omba Had His Share, Pastor Ng’ang’a Had His and Now We Have 10 Reasons Why Kenyan Girls Cannot Resist Pastors
You have seen them, heard of them or read about them. Pastors and their legions of women. Women who would do anything for the pastors.
A trend we have noticed in Kenya and the world over, women love themselves a man of the cloth. So why do pastors attract these young girl’s? We sought to find out and through our investigations which took us to the doorstep of one of the most reputable psychologists in the country, here are some of the reasons.
Fame: Musicians, actors and other famous people have their legions of groupies who flock to them like a moth to light and pastors are no different. Most pastors are famous even though their level of fame may differ, there are those who are known nationwide and there those that are stars in their villages.
People want to be associated with famous people.
Let’s address the elephant in the room swirling in a crimson tutu throwing glitter in our faces, money. You hear a lot of people say that churches’ main focus is no longer ministering; churches nowadays have become cash cows. For the following reasons: A pastor makes a lot of money with so little work, all he has to do is peruse through a Bible and Visit a few people in their time of need. In return he makes a lot of money, and not just any money but tax free money. Every month he gets his salary, gets Sunday offerings and gifts from the congregation in form of cash. Ladies nowadays want quick money, a quick fix to their problems and that is why they rush to pastors.
Culture of Quick Money and comfort: A good number young girls want to live like cats, they want to sleep, get their nails done and get pampered and take Selfies to share on Instagram. Socialites are one way to go, but marrying rich is way better and ‘respectable’, and these are luxuries associated with pastors.
Power: Power is alluring, in the words of – Tony Montana, in Scarface “In this country, first jou get the money, then jou get the power, then jou get the women.”

The Godfather: The ultimate symbol of power
People are drawn to those that exude power, those that are able to control people and if you are affiliated to someone with power, you are powerful by association. For example if people know that you are close to the president, people look at you from a different perspective, you are respected and no one is likely to cross your path.
Pastors represent power and in the process women want to be associated with powerful men, they want to be first ladies and Mama wa Kanisa.
They want to meet a need: Thanks to the resurgence of dead beat dads and slacker mums a lot of children lack role models, they lack a father figure. And pastors provide a father figure; they offer protection thus the use of the term “Dad” in various churches.
Pastors are Well dressed: Generally pastors are well turned-out, wearing trim suits and luxurious colognes, they groom well and with seemingly great manners, they are generally a cultured flock of people.

And let’s be honest, Girls do not want a riff raff or scrub, they want a man who can pull off a suit well, as they say a good suit is to women what lingerie is to men.
They are the perfect man: Pastors seem non-violent, seem faithful a man tamed by God. People talk well of pastors generally.
Propinquity: meaning nearness, people fall in love with people who are physically closer to them. For example a religious woman is likely to meet the pastor on a Monday during choir practice, Tuesday during revival meetings, Wednesdays through home bible fellowship, Thursday for paying courtesy calls to the sick, Friday Kesha, Saturday for praise and worship practice for Sunday and Sunday in church. And if a man is a charismatic and endearing as most pastors are, and you spend a lot more time with him, what will stop you from falling in love?
Fear: we all fear cheaters so many people will gravitate towards the pastor who has been ‘tamed by the bible’, so to speak, he seems trustworthy and makes other men look like dogs in comparison.

Societal Prejudice: Whether we like to admit it or not, a lot of things we do are shaped by society; we want to ‘look right’ or successful in front of others. ‘Marrying right’ is key; it determines your position on the social ladder.
If he is a pastor and a girl is being courted by a pastor, no one raises eyebrows since you are dating the right man, a pastor by society’s standards. Your parents are also unlikely to resist a man of God marrying their daughter.
I spoke to a few ladies who have dated pastors and those that aspire to date pastors and their reasons for dating men of the cloth were pretty interesting. A lady who once dated pastor…on the side, decided to dish out what makes a pastor so attractive. The lady who spoke from anonymity confessed that she wanted a pastor because he provided financial security , something which she lacked growing up as she grew up in abject poverty.
My colleague Sheila was of the opinion that she would date a pastor as pastors are leaders, are educated in all things Goldy and are Faithful!
