Channel O Shuts Down!

As a child of the 90’s or mid 80’s we grew up listening to Channel O, which launched in the early 1990s.

Back in the day, it ruled the roost but the entrance of Trace TV and MTV Base made it hard to clinch the top spot, leading to the gradual decline in popularity over the years.

Despite the entrance of the newbies, it managed not to sink by playing music from all over Africa,giving attention to music from even the remotest countries and giving a chance to those musicians whose music did not fit into pop-culture. It gave a chance for the ‘little musicians ‘ to thrive.

News reaching us is that the beloved station will be closing down in the next two weeks. But weep not Channel O fans you can still catch it as show on Africa Magic from one P.M.
