This One From STL Is Bound To Shock You!!

I remember acing my Kikuyu classes from way back in 1997, as a no-shoes, tattered shorts  scrawny little boy who had a characteristic hardon for life. My father, a school master then, ravished me with gifts in partial congratulations for my ace performance in vernacular. It was knowledge that would come in  handy in my linguistics class later  in campus. The syllabus has since changed, so has the century, but the knowledge we acquired then lives on,  decades later.

Over the weekend, I chanced upon a status by STL, Stella Mwangi (for those who suck at acronyms) She shared a snippet  of her book that she used in 1997! It was not just an ordinary book, It was a snippet that spoke a thousand words, Stella Mwangi, with all that grace went through what most African kids of the time went through, the tough school days, braving the hot tropical sun at their village home in Murang’a, Mugoiri.

Indeed, like the 13 million  pearl dress wearing, oscar winning, hollywood sensation would say, ‘…there is hope for every dark skinned African child out there, that no matter where you are from, your dreams are valid..’

Here is the snippet:

There held in her hand, under those perfectly manicured fingers, is the book, the little girl who went to school without shoes  can now relax with lasagna or caviar, her gorgeous feet clad in the best loafers that Gucci has to offer.
