75 Acres of Paradise; Inside The Exquisite Naro moru River Lodge (part 3)
And love did I make alright; passionate, sweet love before I slept like a baby with a fire lighting up in the background. Sound and relaxed sleep, I woke up again to the chirping sounds of birds and a spectacular sunrise over the horizon, to which you could see nothing but the silhouettes of trees expanding all way from my room to ‘Kongoni’ (Not really though I thought it would be funny…haha).
That has to be the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen; actually if you woke up to that every day, then I can only imagine you would be like the Dalai Lama on steroids, stress free and floating in the air. Check out the photos on Part 1
Being around 8 o’clock, I was set for a healthy breakfast which consisted of some fruit salad, some cereal, bacon, sausages and basically everything nice. According to Augastine, the food and beverage manager at Naro moru River Lodge, we needed it considering what we were set up for.

It would turn out to be a fun filled day full of intriguing activities. It started with a tour of the swimming pool area which consisted of a restaurant, a well stocked bar and sitting area. And when was the last time you had a refreshing swim while overlooking the magnificently snow-capped Mt. Kenya? I’m thinking ummm…never. Don’t take my word for it, I suggest you make your way and experience just how magical it is. God knows I was ready to suspend everything and jump in for a swim. Follow up more on my intrigues in Part 2
Our tour extended further to the camping area so if you’re the adventurous type who likes exploring the wild in your own terms, then Naro moru has got it for you. And they have tents for hire (cheap too) so you don’t have to worry about that. The tour went on to the cottages and family homes our first stop being Sendeyo. This according to Winnie is the first cottage to be ever built in the River lodge and it was actually the home of original owner and founder. Naro moru River Lodge was established in 1947, so they have more than enough experience in hospitality.
We even had a feel of the family homes which is basically a secret haven where a family or two can inhabit, cook for themselves and have a splendid quiet time all at a very affordable prize. And everyone is catered for as they even possess a playing area with swings and trees where children can get engaged, mind you in the middle of a bush. And the best thing about this package is that you can opt for a meal plan with the restaurant. The rooms are exquisite, well furnished and with a fully functional modern bathroom. So basically you’re in the wild and still enjoying the finer things in life.

From there we headed to their expansive nature trail which includes bird watching and a whole lot of team building activities. And yet the biggest thing to hit East Africa which includes a state of the art mountain bike arena. Still under construction, this will put Naro moru River Lodge on the map as the only destination where you can engage in this extreme sport. Talking of extreme sport, can I also mention that Naro moru also facilitates mountain climber specifically adventure seekers heading to Mt. Kenya. Actually they manage the shortest trail to the mountain.
By the time I was done with the tour I was feeling more that relaxed and rejuvenated; ready to kick start my year all over again. Plus after I had some fish with fries at the pool while overlooking now the clearly visible Mt. Kenya, I was now more than sure. And I have to really commend the General Manager Bwana Edward who encouraged me to overcome my fears and actually try out swimming. And as we speak I’m no longer the rock that sinks to the bottom of the water, I can now comfortably float. Just a few more lessons and I’ll be ready to compete in the Olympics. Did I say he also bought us a round of drinks; it was obvious where the employees got their habitable traits from.

We also had a very interesting conversation with him which went all the way to his humble beginnings and you won’t believe he started out as a toilet cleaner in another branch owned by the Alliance Company that owns Naro moru among a chain of other hotels. Yes, your dreams are very much valid.
We really didn’t want to leave; and neither did they. But the very kind Winnie Mutua and the General Manager, Edward Wangeci, gracefully awarded us yet another night. Thank you guys! Ooh my, can’t wait to go back.
