Kenyans Clap Back At The Kenya Film Classification Board After “50 Shades Of Grey” Was Banned
The highly anticipated movie “50 Shades of Grey” was demonized by the decency brigade and banned from being sold or viewed from theaters and other public arenas by the Kenya Film Classification Board.
In a statement released on Facebook, the KFCB wrote:
The Board wishes to inform the public, film operators and stakeholders that the film, 50 Shades of Grey has been RESTRICTED. It should not be screened or distributed to the public.
But this “restriction” has elicited unwavering defiance from Kenyans who had this to say:
Kennedy Kimutai :just put an age restriction, why censor the film completely ,what gives you guys the right to decide what adults should or shouldn’t watch??
Charmaine N Ndolo: Banning erotic movies in the 21st century? What happened to age restrictions and making sure they are implemented? Embarrassing…
Awuor Gracca: Mscheeeeeeew!!! Did you watch it to rate it? I will also watch it to confirm if the rating is right!
Loise Muriithi :ive read reviews and its a REALLY lame over-hyped movie…….. Wasn’t even going to watch it……. but since u assume u can make decisions for me, the second it’s available for download i’ll get it and share it with EVERYONE i know……(and don’t know)…. because i can, and because ur idiots.

Ndichu Wa Wangûi Now I definitely have to watch this movie. Your impotent proclamations and directives only serve to embarrass you.
Wambũgũ Gĩthuuri :Thanks once again for making us aware of the existence of this film. Just like u did with the The Wolf of Wall Street, i am now downloading this new one, to see what it is u did not want us to see.
Ciku Muiruri :Are y’all crazy? What is this? 1952?
Donald Spielberg : No wonder South Africa beats us at everything. The movie targets adults. . .you shouldn’t decide for us what is moral or not as Kenyan adults and moviegoers. This is art. You are overstepping your mandate on classifying age limits on films.
Rahul Shah: Uneducated idiots.. That’s who runs the film classification board.
Ayoma Wuod Ayoma: If we download it and watch it privately are we breaking any laws?
Murihia Wa Tana : By the way… Any movie you ban i’ll always watch.. Hata hamjui mngeban paka the novel…. SMH…. Only in kenya
Mercy Muthoni : So you guys watched it and decided to ban it for everyone else? How hypocritical. We are in the Internet age. You’re not solving anything. Nkt
Everlyne Wanjiku Karanja: Kenya film classification board thank you for making 50 shades of grey a must watch for me.read the book all 3 of them and i cant wait to watch the movie.
John Masiga : you guyz are annoying. who appointed you the moral police?? come on, we dont live in some jihadist country where everything is illegal! we are in a free kenya. wake up!
Mubea Murithi :Nyamazeni tu mkule mshahara. You are reminding us how irrelevant you are, wastage of tax shillings.
Martin Mkenya: hahaha banning a movie the way locally made porn is freely circulating. how efficient.
Awuor Gracca: Added to my MUST watch list. NKT!!!!
Ciru Wa Gikandi: *download 53..60..75..100% Download Complete.
Ed De-Los Ragz: I always love when u ban movies. I had thought of nt watching 50 shades bt after this I definately will…
Henry Maina kindly share the reasoning and the final decision restricting the film. I am also looking for past decisions on Movie 43, Paradise Love and Wolf on the street
Edwin Busolo: imagine i never knew about this movie but know that i have found out…do whatever you care but am DEFINATELY WATCHIN THIS ONE!!
Maureen Nzioki: This is like a ‘go yee all and freely watch the movie.’ You have just rubberstamped it for us to watch. what will differ is only the timing. I will create a mini theatre in my house, pretend am in an actual one and watch it. #amnotakid
But there was one lone wolf who rallied in support of the ban :
Benedict Ouma Good job.Thats very responsible of you….doing the right thing can prove to be unpopular in this generation
