Here Are 6 Facts About The Slain Kabete MP That You Need To Know

Over the weekend, Kabete legislator, the late honourable George Muchai was brutally murdered on the streets of Nairobi. Even before he died, there was an attempt on his life.

Below are the six things you need to know about the late George Muchai:

1. The late George Muchai was the Deputy Secretary General of COTU before he joined national politics.

2. He fell out with COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli who he accused of swindling cash out of COTU. Muchai allegedly claimed Atwoli operated 13 secret accounts. He wanted Commercial banks to reveal the names behind the suspicious accounts.

3. Late last year COTU board voted Muchai out on claims that he had breached the provisions of the COTU constitution by acting contrary to the office. COTU led by SG Atwoli accused him of witch hunt and betraying COTU who had sponsored him to parliament by siding with Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi.

4. Mr. Muchai was once accused of stealing somebody’s wife.

In an article published by Citizen Weekly last year, they implicated Mr. Muchai in a love triangle saying he snatched someone else’s wife. The article alleged the husband of the said woman had threatened to expose the MP less he kept off his wife.

Speaking with members of the press, Mr. Muchai strongly dismissed the claim saying the story was linked to his wrangles with COTU.

5. In 2011, Mr. Muchai claimed his life was in danger after he was shot along Kangundo road.

He was stopped on the road and ordered to surrender by unknown gun men. Muchai defended himself but the gun men shot him on his thigh. He managed to come out of the incident alive driving himself to Nairobi Women’s Hospital where he was admitted for four days.

6. Mr. Muchai is the sixth public figure whose untimely death has aroused suspicion of a foul play.

George Muchai is the fourth legislator to die since President Uhuru took power. Mutula Kilonzo, George Thuo, Joseph Ngugi Nyumu (MP Gatundu South), Otieno Kajwang and Fidel Odinga (Son of a politician) all died under mysterious circumstances. To date, there is no explanation to their deaths.
