Tear-gassing Of Langata Primary School Children Catches The International Eye And Taints Kenya’s Image Once Again
Yesterday saw the country turn back to the dark days when innocent school children peacefully protesting the grabbing of their land by a private developer were teargased by inhumane police officers, leaving some unconscious and needing urgent medical attention.
The unprecedented and unfortunate incident has once again caught the international eye, leaving Kenya a laughing stalk in the international scene.
The BBC in particular ran the story and even uploaded a video of the whole incident on their you tube channel, attracting ridicule in equal measure from across the globe.
Some of the comments that trickled down clearly indicate that our image has been badly portrayed in the face of the world, and something urgent needs to be done.
Here is a sample of some of the comments on the video that is quickly going viral:
There is a place where everything sucks and the longer you are there the worse it becomes. Things that would be horrible anywhere else in the world appear common place there and they have a special category called “Africa bad”. That place is Africa. – david minard
