When Lupita Nyong’o was giving her speech at Essence Magazine’s Black Women in Hollywood, she had no idea it would be ranked as the most powerful speech by a woman for the year 2014.

Lupita’s speech highlighted the challenges faced by dark skinned women in a world where light skin is the most preferred pigmentation. Her quote; “Beauty was not a thing I could acquire or consume, it was something I just had to be” has now became a trademark that is synonymous with her.
