This is Why The Ugandan Nanny Captured on Camera Torturing a Baby Received a Lenient Prison Sentence
22 year-old, Jolly Tumuhiirwe, the Ugandan nanny captured by CCTV footage torturing a toddler was sentenced to four years in prison.
A Chief Magistrate judge yesterday sentenced Jolly to four years in jail, a prison term which many think is very lenient for a person who committed barbaric act on an innocent defenseless child. The video footage showing Jolly committing the heinous act sparked outrage across Uganda and the world at large.

Jolly had earlier pleaded guilty to assault charges levied on her during her appearance before Chief Magistrate Lillian Bucyana; she had told the court the attack was revenge after she was beaten by the child’s mother.
Proving the authenticity of the video footage was also an uphill challenge to the prosecutors; since Jolly had already pleaded guilty to assault charges, the court decided to sentence her to prison. The judge said the four years prison sentence was appropriate to her since she had committed unjustifiable and inexcusable crime.
