Even After #MyDressMyChoice Demonstration, Woman gets Stripped And Viciously Beaten In Nairobi

They say you can take the man from the village but you cannot whip the village from the man even if you used the hardest nyahunyo or beat them down with a club.

In the Kenyan scenario, it seems despite being constantly educated about the effects of sexual assault on women, being shown the glaring statistics on sexual assault, some men just cannot be TAMED. Or changed. The demon of chauvinism cannot be exorcised.

After women took to the streets of Nairobi yesterday to demonstrate against the stripping of women, disrespect of women, catcalls and other forms of sexual harassment; a woman was yesterday harassed in Kayole.

According to Classic 105 news beat, the woman was stripped by a gang of men at the stage in Kayole for dressing ‘indecently’. What’s worse the woman is currently hospitalized after sustaining serious injuries from the incident.

It seems that these men were trying to send a message to Kenyan women, that our bodies are not ours, if we try to fight or challenge the harm inflicted on us by taking to the streets, we shall be put into our place.

I am of the opinion that regardless of this, women and men have got to continue the fight against such decadent behavior. And we should not cower or shush in fear of these perpetrators of gender violence, the fight must go on!
