Government’s Deemed All-Out-War on Bloggers Raises Tension
The recent calls by state proponents advocating for the gagging of bloggers by implementing policies has been met by a fierce reaction from people across the different professions.
Lemukol Ng’asike an architect by profession wrote to The Star newspaper expressing his argument as to why the state should forget regulating bloggers; his article appeared on today’s edition of the newspaper (page 25). The architect’s tenet for his argument revolves around the state’s misunderstanding of the true meaning of the word blogging, perceiving bloggers to being same as journalists and how it (the state) will effectively implement the said policies.
Lemukol reminds the government that blogging only means speaking and it is no different to any other formal or informal talk people have every day; the only difference being the medium used-the internet. He further elaborated the difference between a blogger and a journalist; being that a blogger is a free-thinker whereas a journalist has no mind of his/her own; being the link between the source of information he/she is sent to gather and his/her employer.
Lumukol concluded his argument with a warning for the state; saying that basis foundation of peace and prosperity for any nation was not the calmness and silence of its citizens rather the ability of the masses to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences without the fear of victimization.
