After her father left when she was 3 years old, Irene Mureithi and her family were left in abject poverty and growing up was hard for her as she lacked basic commodities such as sanitary towels and getting education was pretty difficult. Things did not get easier for her when she finished school as she had to walk all the way from Westlands to her job in Donholm(18 Km).
