Ghafla Exclusive: ‘My Sudden Fame Made Me Live Beyond My Means and That’s Why I’m in my Current Situation ‘ Denno from ‘Mbona’ Admits

Denno, the visually impaired and immensely talented singer from ‘Mbona’ recently made it back to the spotlight in Bahati’s ‘Story Yangu’.

His comeback however did not come without its share of controversies. Bahati was accused of sowing seeds of hatred between artistes by saying that Denno was still impoverished despite his ‘Mbona’ fame. There were also accusations that Daddy Owen Pocketed the royalties earned form ‘Mbona’.

Denno has however come out to clear the air.

Speaking about the 1 Million Daddy Owen supposedly gave him, Denno said that “The million shillings was not given to me, they held an album launch with the money. Adding that Daddy Owen didn’t establish a business for him and as we speak he does not have any business to call his own. “Biashara hakuniwekea, hakuna biashara nafanyanga.” He said.

What about the royalty money, did he get any of it?” I have not received any royalties, I went to MCSK last year August, then I found out that there is no money. Mbona is not under my Name so I was not entitled to any royalties. The song is under Daddy Owen’s name. I am supposed to get a direct percentage because I’m a member of MCSK, but I didn’t get even a cent.” Denno revealed.

But despite not receiving any royalties, Denno admits that Mbona made him famous and he got gigs on his own. But Showbiz life was a bit hard for him and so he started living beyond his means.

“There are expectations that come when it depends on fame and I could not keep up. I am still living beyond my means because I became famous.” The ‘Mbona Hit maker admitted.

But despite what went down with ‘Mbona’ Denno said that there is no bad blood between him and Daddy Owen saying that they are still amicable although they do not talk as much as they used to.

He then went to Bahati’s defense saying that “Bahati just wrote about my life, he did not point anyone out. I have been very happy for the last week; I’m back to the scene. I have registered the song with Bahati but he has given me 100% of the royalties.”

Bahati is not the only one who has come to his rescue; Jaguar will be paying for one of his recordings and Denno has promised that this time he is here to stay.
