Lupita Nyong’o is all over the place! If she is not posing alongside Oprah in the Hollywood Reporter, she is stealing the spotlight on Vanity Fair or looking stunning in Vogue Italia.

In fact, her beautiful skin is just what Miu Miu needed .And I love it! Lupita is just what Africa needed. In a continent where light skin is favored instead of dark skin, we needed that wakeup call that being lighter does not always mean being beautiful.

In a continent where bleaching is as rampant as diseases we need Lupita as a role model for young girls especially due to the shocking number of people bleaching .According to a research by the World Health Organization it was revealed that 77 percent of women in Nigeria use skin bleaching products, followed by 59 percent of women in Togo, and 27 percent in Senegal.

In a world where Naija-Cameroonian “Pop star” Denciais promoting a ratchet bleaching cream called Whitenicious (hmm… they probably ran out of funds to get a creative name) we need Lupita.

Lupita is a perfect role model for all African girls and women of color. She is proof that you can still be hot and successful in your dark skin short hair glory. Lupita keep doing what you are doing you are doing, may the world be bombarded by images and may your reign continue.
