Kenya’s First Openly Gay ‘Senator’ Forms His Own Political Party

Obama may have legalized same-sex marriage in the U.S.A, but back in his home-country, the topic is still very controversial. So controversial is this topic that coming out as gay makes it to front page news.

In Kenya, very few celebrities or politicians have come out.In the entertainment scene we have only one openly gay musician, one openly gay author and openly gay politicians are unheard of here. But there is this trail blazer who is pushing gay rights as well as everybody’s rights forward while furthering his political career.

Kuchu Times reports that Kenya’s first openly gay politician popularly called “Senator David Kuria Mbote” has formed a political party after his unsuccessful strive for the Kiambu Senate seat back in 2012.

Mbote pulled out of the race citing lack of security and insufficient funding for his campaign but he is back and has formed The Equality Party of Kenya which is still in its formative stage.

The party needs 24000 founding members from at least 25 counties and those interested in joining the party can submit their applications to allpeoplesparty@outlook.com
