Is Ghafla Misleading Young Girls By Posting About Huddah Monroe And The Rest Of The Socialites?

I am sorry to break some awesome people’s trust but I have heard this accusation way too many times to ignore it anymore. Most people I meet take issue with Ghafla for giving socialites what they consider to be excessive coverage.

I have met readers and Ghafla enthusiast and industry players who feel we have given the likes of Huddah Monroe too much coverage and some of them have been bold enough to say that we have even contributed to creating the fame monster known as “socialite” in Kenya. Apparently, we have been creating artificial fame for these “socialites”.

That isn’t what has had me perplexed; what has was when someone asked me whether we take into account what impression we are giving to little girls. School girls of all ages. To be honest I had never thought of that. That was quite the paradigm shift!
But with that said, allow me to be candid: It is none of my concern. While I feel for the children who have had to grow up with absentee parents, I cannot be held responsible for their parent’s failure. Any girl that looks up to a celebutante or a socialite and aspires to be like them then you did a bad job at being a role model.

The socialites are doing their own thing to achieve their own ends. Raising your children isn’t one of their responsibilities. Come on guys, the best role models for our children is us. Not teachers, not dancers, not preachers. Us!
And if you abdicate your role, expect your children to seek role models from television and entertainers -people playing a role. Think about it…
