Another Stunning Kenyan Film!
I’ve heard alot about Kenyans not being good at making movies, music, television series and what not. And time and again i have countered with my evidence.
When music is called to question by my cousins who profer Omawumi, i mention Suzanna Owiyo. They mention Nollywood, I counter with Nairobi Half Life. But now that list is growing. There’s a movie i stumbled upon called Kenji. I stumbled upon it at the Kenya Film Festival being held at StarFix (who btw are doing a good job of promoting local content).
Basically, Kenji is an eperimental art-house film that employs poetry, silence and narration as stylistic devices to tell the story of it’s two main characters, Kenji and his wife Ringos.
The thing that hits you right off the bat is the quality of the videography. The scenes are seamless. And if you enjoyed the international critically acclaimed Paul Thomas Anderson directed epic picture “There Will Be Blood”. The film is artistic so if you like big explosions and nudity, keep fapping to your stash and give this one a pass. But if you are a true movie buff, this one is a must see!
The film “Renji” is directed by Robin Njenga and according to sources was done on a budget of not more than 10,000/- which in itself is just impressive -this leaves me wondering what he’d do given a proper budget. Robin, a student of film is clearly a gifted director.
Check the teaser trailer and let’s know what you think of it. And make a point to pass by StarFlix to catch this and support a truly gifted Kenyan director:
