Mzungu, the Next Big Film in Kenya, Needs Your Help
“Mzungu is a feature film that explores an American traveler’s unexpected nightmare while vacationing in Africa. Inspired by actual events, the story chronicles Jesse Bloom, a charming, young man who wakes up after a night of hard partying and is arrested for a grisly murder. Suddenly thrust into the underbelly of Kenyan society, he is forced to contend with the kinds of people that would normally go unseen by an outsider (a tourist). The film honestly examines our perceptions of good and evil while delivering an enthralling and taut thriller.”
That is the synopsis of a Kenyan film that is expected to be the next big thing in Kenyan cinema. The film will be directed by Olumide Odebunmi who co-wrote Smokin’ Aces 2. The executive producer is Olatunde Osunsanmi who wrote The Fourth Kind starring Milla Jovovich.
Another producer will be Bernard Neto who has worked for American cable channels Showtime and the Discovery Channel. Benjamin Ochieng will star in the film. He has also starred in Tears of the Sun with Bruce Willis.
The film needs your help so that it can get to the production stage. The target is $40,000, it has only managed to get a quarter of that so far with 119 contributors. There’s only 15 days left to the Kickstarter deadline.
If you cannot contribute money, you can help by spreading the word through your social networks. Add Mzungu on Facebook and invite your friends to do so as well, make an announcements at your school, community group or church, or forward the email flyer to all your friends and family with your own personal message.
