KTN Okays The Hijab

If you are keen enough you must have noticed that not a single news presenter at KTN wears a hijab when on air. Well, things are now set to change after the new Standard Group CEO, Sam Shollei, restored the right of female Muslim presenters to read news while wearing hijabs.

Shollei who took over from Paul Melly has re-introduced the hijab in a move aimed breaking from the “secular” dress code that for several months effectively barred the wearing of Islamic head coverings. The previous management had banned female presenters from reading news on KTN wearing hijab, at a time when a court ruled to bar a female student from wearing hijab to school.

”Shollei has restored the right of Muslims to present news, report on camera and be generally seen on KTN with a hijab for those who would like. Everyone has a choice of religion and everything, he said,” a source quoting the CEO told Jackal News.

Veiled female presenters like Mwanahamisi Hamadi and Jamilla Mohammed of Citizen and NTV respectively have been presenting regular night news on their respective stations so this news would be greatly welcomed at the Mombasa road-based media giant.

Way to go KTN.
