Cyprian Nyakundi & Stephen Jennings Flippantly Defy High Court Order In Bidco Suit

There are some cases that make you wonder whether the rule of law applies to everyone in Kenya, or is there a separate rule of law for the common mwananchi and for the fortunate few?

Barely three weeks after Vimal Shah obtained a court order blocking Cyprian Nyakundi and Stephen Jennings from posting anything bad about him on social media, they have opted to flout the rule of law with reckless abandon. In a defiant move, Stephen Jennings ordered a protest in the streets of London, to disrupt an inspirational talk that Vimal was about to deliver. The canned protests were was promptly posted to YouTube and Twitter with the help of Nyakundi and his twitter army, contrary to the court order:

See Nyakundi proceed to tweet out said video:

We as Kenyans are usually focused on impunity within government, but we need reminding that the culture of impunity starts with the citizens themselves, and it is especially saddening when we allow foreigners to flout our laws however they want and get away with it. We shall see how the courts react to this revelation.

Nyakundi in particular, loves to talk big talk about bad government, but it seems to be simply a case of highlighting the speck in his brother’s eye, while ignoring the log in his own eye. Defiance of a High Court order paints such a bad image for social media in Kenya. Nyakundi continues to post tweets defaming Vimal, even as of the time of writing this article. It is people like Nyakundi who make others worry that social media is a beast that has lost control and needs to be tamed. As much as there is press freedom, the rule of law and court orders must be observed above all else. Little does this young man realise that he is just a pawn in a larger game. You would think he would have quit after being busted extorting 50million bob from Bidco, but he continues on the losing side of this lawless crusade
