Roki’s Real Reason For Being on BBA

Big Brother Africa’s Star Game may have been a tactic by the show’s producers to keep the show fresh, exciting and maybe get a few more eyeballs to satiate star-crazed viewers’ cravings. Some of the stars may be on the show to increase their continental appeal or maybe some are just there for the women.

Zimbabwean musician Roki had talked about trying to widen his net as far as his intentions for agreeing to be on the show, “At least when I walk out of this house, it will be easier for me to approach other African artists for collaborations as they will have heard some of my music being played here and also know me. I am also getting to know some other artists from Africa, too.”

But for the singer, this is also an opportunity to mend his public image and his fans’ perceptions of him. From an assault charge on his wife to a community service sentence after an illegal marijuana possession charge, the singer’s life is littered with controversy. He also has five children with five different women, and those are just the ones the public knows of.

From erratic mood swings and careless spending. The bad-boyness has endeared him to fans, especially women but the singer wants to change that. Roki’s manager, Bybit Areketa, admitted to Zimbabwe’s News Day that he went on show for PR. By having a camera on him 24 hours a day, his manager sees it as a chance for redemption and for the Zimbabwean public to see him for more than just a drug-addicted womanizing wife-beater.
