Are the Creatives Fighting Back?
The creative industry, specifically advertising, is considered a fun one to work in. What better way to make a living than sit around coming up with the next big marketing campaign for leading a company, pick and direct models for photo shoots and YouTube foreign ads all day?
Maybe it’s fun on Mad Men or in other countries. Or maybe they just do a good job of censoring the boardroom drama, in-fighting, workplace politics and stuck up clients who believe copywriters and art directors are magicians who can do anything on the smallest budget.
A Kenyan Twitter account, @AgencyK, was set up recently and has been tweeting about life in the ad agencies. Unlike other parody accounts, this one is more factual in pointing out the goings-on in the creative industry and their relationship with clients and fellow workers. It casts new light on working conditions and big-picture financial decisions made by the heads.
The account runners have found a humorous twist to their follies and periodically tweet authoritatively suggesting all their issues are part of the plan. Most of the tweets are general but you can tell which group of companies the tweeter is referring to with tweets like this one.
