Nairobi’s IMAX 20th Century Set to Open This Friday

After an extremely long wait, Kenyan movie goers will finally get the chance to experience theatre at its best, with the grand opening of the 20th Century Imax theatres on the 30th of March 2012.

The previous cinema hall had been shut down mid September 2011 for renovations. The refurbishment, being carried out by Blue Sky World Kenyan representatives Angel Media, has seen more than 30 kilometres of cable used, materials and equipment flown in from as far as North America and the Far East as well as a 12,000 watt projector system and a brand new fully installed screen that is 3.5 storeys high, making it the biggest screen in Kenya.
Previously there were two screens but both have been combined to make one huge hall with an average seating of not less than 250 seats.

A ticket will retail at Kshs. 1,000 and the film to be shown is the Wrath of the Titans.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the movie:

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Starring: Sam Wothington, Liam Neeson and Rosamund Pike

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus-the demigod son of Zeus-is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon.

The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned…
