Shocking Hospital Negligence! Rude Gynecologist Leaves A Pregnant Woman To Die With A Stillborn Because Working Hours Were Up

Another life has been lost at the hands of negligent medical personnel. Just a couple of weeks after an accident victim passed away after being kept waiting for hours, the recent incident is even more callous.

36 year old Elizabeth Akala was admitted to Kakamega Hospital after an ultrasound scan showed that the baby she was carrying in the womb had died. While she was admitted on Tuesday 5.00 pm, with the doctors well aware of her emergency, she was kept waiting for 14 hrs before being attended to.

Nurses and doctors in the labor ward signed off from duty despite the patient’s pain and her urgent need of medical attention. The one female gynecologist who got to see could only call her illiterate and complain about how she had already worked an hour extra past official time before leaving her and a dead baby inside her womb and in pain.

Narrating the ordeal the husband said, “The gynecologist looked at the ultrasound results and asked my wife whether she was literate. She threw the papers at her saying that the results showed that the “thing you are carrying in your belly is already dead’”.
“At that point, my wife was in so much in pain and my sister-in-law and I were holding her upright on either sides.”

“The gynecologist then admitted her and told us that she was too tired, that she had completed her shift, and that she had even overstayed by more than an hour. I stayed with my wife at the labor ward and the only people I saw around were the trainee nurses clad in Kenya Medical Training College uniform,”

He would leave at 9:30 pm for home to attend to their 7 year old kid. Despite assurance from her nurse on the welfare of his wife, Mr.Zachariah Ludenyo would arrive in the morning at 9.00 am to find his wife dead with no operation done.

It was only at the morgue that the baby was removed. Nothing is being done to the responsible staff and more Kenyans could yet suffer under hospital negligence.
