Is This Why Men Hate Weaves? #StoryLab

 A couple of days ago I was watching, ‘How to Find a Husband’, the second episode of Kenya’s steamy series, comes on Tuesday at 10pm on Maisha Magic, Channel 161. Billy (Justin Mirichii) went on and on about how he loves Abigail’s (Mumbi Maina) natural hair, flirted with her, ordered for drinks… Only to find out it’s not her natural hair but a weave. They guy had a lot of nasty ish to say, woke up and left her with the bill! Claiming his a MAWE guy…Men Against Weaves.

This got me thinking about men love-hate relationship with weaves, so I did a small survey in the office. From seven guys, this is what I got in summary;

  • Weaves are only acceptable if it’s well kept and look real-ish, Vera Sidika style
  •   “I call my hate to weaves, weavism…think it racism”. Case closed.
  • “Weaves/wigs don’t give me the option of pulling hair when I’m hitting it from the back”. Trust!
  • One of the guys compared weaves to dead things! Cause they come from animals, or someone’s head, or a dead person. Only men would think like that.
  • Weaves make the woman look fake, gives me trust issues about the woman’s physic and personality.
  • When they stink, they STINK!

Personally, why is it your concern what a woman chooses to do with her hair? Whether bought from the store or growing out of the scalp, it has nothing to do with me. My borderline comes in when they stink, please change or wash…

The Series really opened my eyes…Is this where we are at the moment, that as women we have to change all that we are so that we can find a man who will put a ring on it? Is the natural hair movement taking over? The struggles we have to go through to get a man…Enough of my ranting, watch the short clip I’ve put below let me know what you think.

So, what’s your take on weaves? Yes? or nah? Join in the conversation with #htfahtv for twitter.
