A new SMS service has been launched to hook up youth and women with tenders in government. It will alert youth and women whenever a tender that they can apply for is floated by the government.

The two groups are entitled to 30 percent of the procurement pie, which is worth more than Sh200 billion. But they rarely know when such tenders are floated and by which ministry.

Not anymore. Youth and women who want to apply for such tenders can SMS the word PATA to 22929 and they will receive SMS alerts whenever a ministry, parastatal or any other public agency floats a tender that the youth or women qualify. The service will also provide guidelines on how the two groups can register their companies with Treasury to be pre-qualified to supply goods and services to the government.
