KENYA’S FIRST 24-HOUR ENTERTAINMENT CHANNEL TO AIR ON STARTIMES

…Triple P a boost to the promotion of local talent…

Pay Television Company StarTimes Media and Triple P – a 24 hour channel dedicated to airing local productions have partnered in a move that will see the pay television company host the channel on its digital television platform a move that will see crystal clear audio and visual reception of the same across the country.
The development is a shot in the arm to the growing appeal for local content among Kenyans leading to increased local productions, development of existing talent and emergence of new talent in the competitive entertainment industry.
The local productions dedicated channel named Triple P will be available on all StarTimes bouquets and will feature music and a host of other Kenyan productions aimed at appreciating well-known as well as emerging talent as production of the same continues to gain prominence but with limited opportunities to air the said content.
Triple P will also be a key channel licensed by Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) to air local content in public places such as banks, supermarkets, malls, pubs and restaurants among others thereby acting as an alternative licensing regime.
This will ensure that such establishments enjoy local content in their business premises as the revenue derived from the advertisements running on the channel cater for their public performance license which is paid for annually to the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) and later remitted to artistes as loyalties.
Speaking during the launch of the Triple P channel, StarTimes Media Spokesperson Mr. Steven Ambitho noted the pay television company’s renewed vigor to not only spice up its content to its subscribers but also promote local talent as the brand further extends its impact in the provision of premium digital television content in the country.

Triple P becomes the ultimate one stop shop for local content in a single package tailored for both home and public entertainment and with more and more Kenyans migrating to the digital television platforms ahead of the switch off from the analogue television signals, the channel presents an unrivaled opportunity for local content providers to publicize their works.

MCSK CEO Mr. Maurice Okoth noted the immense contribution that the channel will play both in promoting local talent and further aligning the licensing process key in ensuring that artists under the society continue maximizing their dues through unlimited airtime to highlight developments and content from local providers and artists.
“Triple P presents a unique opportunity to further complement efforts to appreciate and promote the Kenyan talent with a dedicated platform aimed at giving unrivaled prominence to local productions while maximizing opportunities to tap revenue in our efforts to continue growing loyalties paid out to artists every year”, observed Mr. Okoth.
