Dela’s unveiling
Only divas go by mononyms because they have carved a niche for themselves and Dela is no exception.
She recently released a peace song, and collaborated with Juliani on Voter vs vulture, and tonight she returns to the Choices Baricho road stage for a performance that promises to be all kinds of amazing. Not many vocalists accomplished or not can hold their own against Dela, but before you thinking I’m tooting her horn too much, listen to weche tek.

According to her Bio, her love for music blossomed at the tender age of seven when her gift was stirred in church. In school, she continued singing and was an active member of the choir. That set the stage for her to become a recording artist. While studying architecture at the University of Nairobi, she met Dan “Chizi” Aceda, and became his background vocalist, the proverbial baptism of fire for her. Her maiden musical foray venture was a collaboration with Sauti Sol on their hit-single “Mama Papa” which features on both their debut albums.

In late 2009 Penya Africa released Paukwa; a collection of stories told by “The Voice”, a nickname Dela was given because of her amazingly sultry and versatile voice. The other person I’ve heard called the voice was Whitney, so maybe that calls attention to the greatness that is Dela. Her highly acclaimed single Ulivyo, received considerable airplay on and features Emukule in the video.
Currently Dela is working on new material and she recently recorded a video for her new single Weche Tek, which was released in August 2012. It was written and produced by Enos Olik.
Catch her tonight and be blown away.
