“My Father Died Of A Stroke A Few Weeks After My First Stroke.” Binyavanga Wainaina Reveals
Binyavanga’s latest confession was nothing short of heartbreaking. Reading it felt like having your heart pulled out directly from your chest.
The renowned author and human rights activist has suffered several strokes in the past, and his worst was his first. This is because his father died shortly after his first stroke, a week to be precise.
In honor of his father, Binyavanga wrote a poem which reads in part:
“Already Baba will be dead in his head on Tuesday middayish, and was being already dead on Friday, when on Tuesday, on Wednesday, on Thursday, my ears will be heart-beating warm, sitting every day smelling his chest, and his eyes will be stubburning glue.”
