Celebs to Face off at Upcoming Social Media Awards
In less than a week’s time, top presenters, politicians and celebrities are expected to face off in Kenya’s first social media awards.
From Kenyans on Twitter, to avid Facebookers and bloggers, the OLX social media awards seek to reward those fresh and daring social media enthusiasts whose wit, charm or revelations keep our eyes glued to the small screen and our fingers clicking.
This first of a kind will bring together not just the hippy and the learned, but also corporate organisations at the forefront of the new media trend. Those who have immensely contributed to the growth of social media in Kenya will also be recognised. The awards will be launched next week.
But the battle of the titans is expected in the social media personality of the year and the social media channel of the year. Think of an adrenaline-filled cat and bear fight between the king of morning radio Maina Kageni and queen of the airwaves Caroline Mutoko. Or the curvaceous Linda Oguttu facing off with Janet Mbugua online.
Politicians will also get to square it out for the social media politician of the year. Here is how it will work. The public will be invited to nominate their favourite social media users (Facebook, Twitter and blogs) as per the outlined categories. Judges will then shortlist those nominated and the top five properties per category will be presented to the public for voting through www.soma.or.ke
The awards are sponsored by OLX, the fastest growing and leading online marketplace in the region.
