Saturday 7th April saw Fena, Kidum, and Steve Nyabwa perform at GodownGig. The performances were nothing short of stellar!

If you didn’t see the pictures from that event, see them here! Now Fena, not one to rest on her laurels when others are on that grind is back! This Thursday, she gets to perform at Choices Baricho road, backed live by her amazing band. Whilst I’d written about her here, I’m still gonna share the event’s bio for your enjoyment. Don’t you just love her lyrics: Take a bite and savour, my chocolate flavour, they were know where I’m from, Africa Massive ah! How about 50/50 bila shame koz we going dutch! So you best show up. Jam Signal who were supposed to perform this Thursday cancelled last minute so Fena stepped in.

Having grown up in a musical household, FENA (full-name Fena Gitu) developed her passion for music at a tender age. In 2008, she won the “Fete de la Musique” singing competition at Alliance Francaise, marking the beginning of a bright music career. She started out as a back-up vocalist for Muthoni the Drummer Queen and Dela in 2009 before pursuing a solo career in 2010.

She has since performed at several events in Nairobi and across Kenya, most notably: FENA LIVE AT SHEBEEN, FENA LIVE AT CHOICES, Blankets and Wine, Kilifi Arts Festival, Molo Footloose Festival for Peace, Arts and Beer Festival, Kinanda Arts Festival, just to mention a few. FENA has had the pleasant opportunity to share the stage with both local and international greats such as; Sauti Sol, Dela, Muthoni, Neema Ntalel, Harry Kimani, Kidum, and international icons; Fally Ipupa (Sawasawa Festival, May 2011), Vivian Green (Lounge Unplugged, September 2011), and UK-based singer/rapper Lush (Molo Footloose Festival for Peace, February 2012).

FENA has so far released three singles; “Down”, her most popular neo-soul song “Fenamenal Woman” and her brand new, chart-topping single “Africa Massive”. FENA is currently recording her debut album produced by Jaaz Odongo. She describes her music as “Soulful-Everything”, fusing a variety of musical genres, from neo-soul to afro-soul, reggae, hip-hop and afro-house, all to create her signature “Fenamenal” sound distinct only to her. This has earned her the alias “Fenamenal Woman” amongst her fans, a pun on her name FENA and the word ‘phenomenal’.
