Nairobi, Wednesday August 22nd 2012… Leading integrated communications provider
Safaricom Limited has partnered with top local stars to launch the second phase of the
country’s biggest music property. A cross-section of Kenya’s leading entertainers including
Camp Mulla, Jaguar, Jimmi Gait, Sauti Sol, Size 8 and comedy sensation Jalango will
headline ‘Niko na Safaricom Live’ concerts across the country.
Speaking during the launch of the Niko na Safaricom Live! Campaign, Safaricom CEO Bob
Collymore said, “Safaricom is committed to growing local talent and that is why we have
invested over Kshs 250 million in “Niko Na Safaricom. Kenya artistes are talented and we are
providing them with a platform to deliver world class entertainment that will connect with
millions of youth and Kenyans across the country.”
The 5 month “Niko na Safaricom Live” entertainment extravaganza will kick off in Meru then
move to Kisumu, Mombasa, Eldoret and Kisumu and culminate in the Grand Finale in Nairobi
on the 15th of December. The 6 “Made for TV” concerts will also involve production of local
content by the signed up musicians which will be marketed through Safaricom Live portal and
Skiza on mobile phones. In addition to growing and nurturing local musical talent, “Niko Na
Safaricom Live” is aimed at connecting with the youth through live concerts, campus storms,
activations and roadshows.
“Niko na Safaricom” will also incorporate performances by last year’s Safaricom Kenya Live
artistes who include amongst otherss Redsan, Wahu, Jua Cali, Wyre, Nameless, Ken wa Maria,
Osogo Winyo, Ally B, Phonotex Success Band, M.O.G, Eko Dydda, Allan Aaron, DJ John and Mike
Rua.
