WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT JOE?
Joe Thomas was one of five children and grew up in an environment filled with Gospel music. Both his parents are ministers. The Thomas family moved to Alabama when Joe was two and he grew up as an active member of the church and sang in the choir, played guitar and eventually directed the choir.
In the late 1980s, he started playing in local bands in Alabama. He eventually moved to New York City to pursue a musical career.
Joe’s breakthrough came when he met producer Vincent Herbert. He went on to release his debut album, Everything, in 1993. It spawned a number of hit singles, including the #10 R&B hit “I’m in Luv.”
Joe signed with Jive Records for his 1997 album, All That I Am, which reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200 album charts and No. 4 on the R&B charts. Mr. Thomas’ fourth album, My Name is Joe, became his most successful album, reaching No. 1 on the R&B charts and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in the year 2000. It eventually sold over three million copies.
After leaving Jive in 2001, Joe signed with Kedar Massenburg’s Kedar Entertainment, and has released three albums: September 2008’s Joe Thomas, New Man, July 2009’s Signature and in October 2011, his latest piece… The Good, the Bad, the Sexy.

Barely five months after this, Joe is making his way to Kenya for the first time to perform at the first ever Tusker Lite concert this year. Penned for March 31st and sponsored by Tusker Lite, Joe will come to Nairobi with an 8-member band.
“June Gachui will be the opening act, and singer Donell Jones’ DJ, Jaytech, will also keep the crowd revved up in between performances,” says Somoina Kimojino-Kwikiriza, Programmes Controller at 98.4 Capital FM.
“Joe is only the first of several artists lined up this year. It’s about good music and good fun, and that is what this concert promises.”
Tickets to see Joe and be part of the Tusker Lite experience are retailing at Sh3,000 and the event will take place at the Bomas of Kenya. He’s one of the greats and you definitely don’t want to miss out on the experience.
