Do Me I Do You: After KPLC Cuts Off City Hall Electricity, The County Clamps Stima Plaza Over Debt
KPLC and the Nairobi County government are two entities known very well for their penchant of harsh penalties and rogue enforcement tactics while being slow and undependable on service delivery.
Thus it was quite good and hilarious too to see them have a go at each over defaulted payments. KPLC fired the first shots last week when they disconnected power to City Hall over a 100 million bill. This is despite what the County treasury head Maurice Okere says are regular payments of 25 million monthly. Yesterday, City Hall returned the favor in a move that saw it set up a blockade of all Stima Plaza Gates in a 4 hour seize under the guard of police officers. The blockade ended only after negotiations involving the governor Evans Kidero, the County Finance Chief and KPLC Chairman ended. The Nairobi County government seeks 608 million from the power supplier a debt it says has been accruing since 2002. Here are the photos;
