In Africa, once you hit 25, your parents keep asking when you are getting married and when they will get to see their grandkids.

The pressure increases as you grow older and Jane Mukami who is known to many as the ‘Fit Kenyan Girl’, a local fitness powerhouse/ blogger is no stranger to the ‘Utaoa Lini?’ questions and the pressure.

She admits that her well-meaning mum often asks her “Why are you not going out? You need to find a husband.”

But society also mounts some pressure on her especially because she is 4 years shy of 40. Jane says that the reason she is not married yet is because she is super-busy and has not had the time to look for a husband. But she says that she never stress about things that are beyond her control, if she finds a husband well and good. She however admits that she likes the whole idea of having a family.“I do want kids, I want a family. Most people get surprised when I say I want kids and I get surprised that they are surprised I want kids” she divulges.

So what kind of man is suitable for her? “The type of man I want and need, unfortunately there are few Kenyan men who would mesh well with my lifestyle” she confesses before adding that she wants a man who likes to keep fit, eat healthy and is a teetotaler like her.
