Akon Savagely Attacked For Congratulating President Uhuru Kenyatta!

Just yesterday I was decrying the fact that the government has been dulling (delaying) with the tackling of ethnic hate-speech on social media and the dragon has struck again. Akon congratulated Uhuru Kenyatta on his presidency and Kenya for peacefully conducting her elections and you can read his message here.

What happened next not even I could anticipate. Kenyans from various ethnic communities got on Akon’s fanpage and unleashed such ethnic vitriol that he had to respond. It says something about us as Kenyans by the way! The fact that we are so ethnically divided that we feel no shame airing our dirty laundry in public is disgusting!

Here’s how it played out,

A fan commented and said the following:

“The guy is a thief just like he’s father. Stole land only his tribe voted for him . He charged by the international crime court and I hope they convict him . Why congratulate him????.”

Akon who had been ignoring all the other comments couldn’t ignore this one and said the following:

“This is why Africa can’t move forward. We spend too much time focusing on the Negative. I congratulated him for going about the elections in a peaceful way! This is big for Africa as a whole! What ever he’s done in the past, he will have to face God in the end! So why trouble yourself or stress! We are not the ones to Judge.”
