Blogger & Investigative Journalist Dennis Itumbi Reveals The Plight of Security Officers in Baragoi
When 42 police officers were massacred in Baragoi, Samburu in October last year, the Government acted swiftly by sending a contingent of security officers to the troubled region to hunt for cattle rustlers who killed security officers in an ambush in Baragoi. However, it now emerges that the officers sent there are a disgruntled lot.
Blogger and investigative journalist Wednesday afternoon blew the whistle on the difficulties encountered by the officers. So, without distorting any information, here’s Itumbi’s message;
There was a Disobedience of lawful orders by the over 400 GSU, AP, Anti Stock Theft Unit and Kenya Police officers stationed in Baragoi when they refused to go to attack Suguta valley. The officers complained their continued stay there has subjected them to unwarranted harm. They have not been paid over two months allowances with each officer expecting to get sh3000 a day. The officers can’t also access their bank accounts since there are no lorries to ferry them to nearest town. The most affected are those married since they can’t pay school fees for their kids or support their families financially. The officers further complained they are being served bad food. The military which was ordered by their commander In Chief to assist the police left the rough terrain leaving the police without the crucial air support needed to attack Suguta valley. The officers said they can’t attack Suguta valley without Air support.
