Boniface Mwangi Wins Yet Another Prestigious Award

Boniface Mwangi has done it again!

The outspoken social activist who has for a long time waged a near one-man war against Kenyan’s apathy towards politics holding rallies and demonstrations promoting peace and positive change.

Boniface Mwangi is as of now the youngest ever laureate recipient of  the Prince Claus Awards. And for those of us who didn’t know a thing about the Prince Claus Award, the awards honour outstanding achievements in matters culture and social development and are presented annually to just 11 deserving individuals from around the world who have made  have a generally positive influence in their societies.

According to Christa Meindersma (the fund’s director) Boniface Mwangi was selected “because his provocative photography deals with social injustices and he seeks dialogue through cultural means”.

Mr. Mwangi has organized a series of peaceful protests around the country in lieu of promoting peace and positive change particularly in political leadership. “The perpetrators of violence will rise again,” he told Dutch media, Radio Netherlands. “Kenya is experiencing a curse. The curse of bad leadership.”

His work is currently on display at the Hague in an exhibition called ‘The Price of Tribal Politics’ and will run until the 18th of October 2012.

And do you have any idea how much he is set to receive? One Principal Prince Claus Award of 100,000 euros is presented by the Royal Family of the Netherlands in Amsterdam and ten other awards of 25,000 euros is given in each country by the Dutch Ambassador there. Talk about activism and speaking up for what’s right and getting rewarded for it!

This is a seriously good look for Boniface Mwangi!
