Building Housing Baraka FM Gutted Down By Fire
Tuesday night fierce fire engulfed Cannon Towers one of the landmark buildings in Mombasa town. The fire outbreak not only burned down properties worth millions but has had a major economic impact on businesses on the building.
Among those affected was Baraka FM – the oldest private FM station in Coast province which is housed on the buildings 7th floor. The station went off air about an hour after the fire began and it was not clear immediately if fire had gutted it or if any staff members were injured.

However, a statement from the radio station indicated that it was partly affected by the fire. “Cannon Towers is still burning but the fire brigade is here. All Baraka FM staff tupo salama, no injuries whatsoever, just burnt offices and property. Chanzo cha moto bado hakijatambuliwa,” read the update.
Operations at the radio station were interrupted forcing the station to go off air until last night when normal operations resumed.
According to Gospel artist Papa Muyelele who is also a radio presenter at Baraka FM, the station was not affected by the inferno. “Baraka Fm wasnt touched by yesterday’s fire at CANNON Towers…God is good!Bado tunazidi ku Shika-More….” declared the singer.
