Embrace the kink, embrace the curl, embrace the Afro, embrace the dreads, embrace the bald is now the mantra for most African women.

While some of us are not ready to let go of the weave just yet and expose the miserable struggle that is our hair, many African women are going bald, rocking the Afro, unmanicured hipster hairdos or just Lupita length hair.

The message that most women embracing this trend want to pass is ‘black is beautiful’ and our kinky hair reminds us of our history and how much progress we have made since we came from under the white man’s colonial yoke. Or something like that.
