Cynthia Nyamai & University Student Suspended for Tweeting to Give Talk at Social Media Event
Cynthia Nyamai, former KTN businesss news anchor and Cyprian Nyakundi, the Meru University College of Science & Technology who got suspended for a year for “tarnishing the university’s image through social media” will be two of the guests at the launch of SocialPRO.
Cyprian was suspended from the university on September 25th for complaining about the lack of chairs, old library books and for criticizing the institution’s deputy principal.
Cyprian Nyakundi will be at the event to discuss online freedom. The panel will be moderated by KBC’s Cherrie. Cynthia Nyamai will give a talk on Communication in New Media.
Other speakers will include Maryanne Michuki (social media manager, Safaricom), Sriram Bharatam (founder, Kuza Biashara), Doreen Waithera (CEO, Marketing Society of Kenya), Evans Muriu (Wanadamu Initiative), Muthuri Kinyamu (Social Edge Africa) and Kennedy Gathu (Lari Smart Villages). The guest speaker will be Bitange Ndemo.
The core objective of these clubs is to nurture, educate, create awareness and impart knowledge &skills of various disciplines of social media to the university students.
These clubs dubbed SocialPRO clubs will develop a talent pool of graduates with a solid understanding of digital media to bridge the knowledge gap and demand there is today for people with skills and expertise in various disciplines of social media.
The Ministry of Information and Communication, has endorsed the initiative will on Thursday 25th of October 2012 launch SocialPRO clubs and a new campaign to promote responsible & ethical use of Social Media at the UoN, Lower Kabete Campus between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The launch is sponsored by Kuza Biashara, Nairobi Hub, Marketing Society of Kenya, Mkenya Daima, Social Edge, Marketing Students Association, BISSA, Pixel Pulse, KEPSA and University of Nairobi.
