What does Vera Sidika and Facebook page Dead Beat Kenya have in common?
They both have put Kenya in the global spotlight for their antics. For Vera it was her unashamed skin bleaching procedure and for Dead Beat Kenya, it’s the naming and shaming of errant parents.
The page’s description reveals Dead beat Kenyans as “a descriptive term that refers to parents of either gender who have freely chosen not to be supportive parents or who do not pay their child support obligations. Deadbeat dad and deadbeat mom are commonly used by child support agencies to refer to men and women who have fathered and mothered a child but are unwilling to pay child support ordered by a family court or statutory agency.”
The page which has grown by epic proportions thanks to its valiant exposure of ‘dead beats’ made it to BBC Trending. BBC Trending collects an assortment of stories that have people talking on social media globally. Here is their post on Dead Beat Kenya
